Museum Day Tour

Last Saturday, I went to Nanjing Paleontology Museum with James, this museum is very interesting; I learn a lot of knowledge during this tour.
First, we saw a big dinosaur model in front of us when we entered the museum; it’s a very famous dinosaur in ancient China. It’s very huge but just eats plants. After the dinosaur, we saw a lot of specimen of microorganism; we can watch these small things very well. Some of them have very rational constitution, could help them easily to live. Then we can see many ancient animals, such as very huge crocodile (larger than any crocodiles on earth now), strange elephant (its teeth was like spades) ~~~ Afterwards we went to watch a movie which introduces ancient living things for us, the movie is very interesting, we can easily know many things by this movie.
The most interesting thing that attracted me a lot was a huge dragonfly. It’s the hugest dragonfly that had ever been on earth. Now 10 normal dragonflies can be the same size as it. It speed could be 40km/hour, almost the same speed as a car. It doesn’t eat plants, but eats other small insects. The model of it was very horrible, makes me feel very disgusting.
In conclusion, I knew a lot of things that I can’t learn in class during this tour. I think it’s necessary for Chinese students because they always keep studying knowledge for the text books. If I have another chance, I want to go to a museum about Chinese History.

An exhibition on Wu Weishan’s sculpture

An exhibition on Wu Weishan’s sculpture
On 4th December, our class went to an exhibition about Wu Weishan’s cultural figures sculpture. The exhibition located in Nanjing Museum. Why did his sculpture be called cultural figures sculpture? He liked to make sculpture for famous people in the world, not only for Chinese, but also for foreigners.
Many famous people such as the Queen of the Netherlands, the president of the Germany also thought Wu Weishan was a great artist.
When we entered the gallery, I was attracted by different kinds of sculptures. Most of them are famous people, they are lifelike, when I went close to Einstein, he seemed to open his mouth his mouth to say something to me, I felt he would revive after people went home. The Confucius was very realistic: With smile on his face, looked very softhearted.
In the middle was his most famous artwork------Sleeping Baby. This sculpture was excellent, it owned a lot of awards, and however, the idea to make this sculpture was very simple: Just because Mr. Wu went to his friend’s home, and found the friend’s grandson was awakened by the noise, then he wanted to cry. Mr. Wu seized this moment, quickly grabbed a bar of clay and finished the work within 5 minutes. After finishing it, Mr. Wu tried to use it to join the competition. To his surprise, raters considered this artwork was special and gave it high evaluations, finally Sleeping Child became famous.
My favorite artwork is called “The kindest is water”, it is a sculpture of a famous philosopher called Laozi. This sculpture was very realistic, this Laozi was a very kind old man. It seemed make in1992When I first saw it I can guess this sculpture was that philosopher. His body was smooth because his main idea of the world was “The kindest in the world was water”. I like this artwork because it show me not only the figure of Laozi, but also his idea. The extra reason was I like his peaceful thought about the world. I make a big mistake, I forgot taking photos with it, what a pity. I must take photos with it if necessary.
When we left the gallery, I still felt very exciting because all the sculptures are so wonderful: some of them are realistic, some have bolder outlines. Especially, Mr. Wu is skilled in making the latter. Those artworks are exquisite in the sense that they seemed to have been created quickly without a pause. Yet, they were not made leisurely, hastily, or without a certain pursuit and resemblance.
We are very lucky: When we wanted to go back to school, we saw Mr. Wu back to his office, so we also take a photo with him. Some students also asked some questions about sculpture, he gave them the answer happily. He also invited our teachers: Ms.Bartell and Ms.Hadley to go to his office to talk about art.
This exhibition was so great; we want to have more similar activities in the future.
